Cabana Babele is one of the best-known chalets in the Bucegi Mountains, sitting on the high plateau at roughly 2206 m, in the Prahova Valley – Bucegi area. It stands just steps from the famous Babele and Sphinx rock formations, which makes it a heavily visited landmark.
Its location on the plateau and easy cable-car access make it an excellent base for exploring the Bucegi, whether for a gentle stroll to the Sphinx or as a launch point toward more distant peaks.
Getting there
- By cable car from Bușteni to the Babele station, the most comfortable and fastest option — check the operating schedule in advance.
- On foot from Bușteni, via the Jepilor Valley (yellow stripe marking), a sustained climb of about 4–5 hours.
- From Cabana Caraiman or across the plateau, on marked paths, in 30–60 minutes.
What to do from here
- Visit the Babele and Sphinx formations, just a few minutes' walk away.
- Set off for Omu Peak on the Babele – Omu trail, about 2.5–3 hours.
- Descend toward Cabana Caraiman and the Heroes' Cross.
Tips
- The ideal season is May–October; in winter the plateau can be blizzard-swept with poor visibility.
