Cabana Negoiu

Cabana Negoiu is a classic chalet in the Făgăraș Mountains, set in the forest on the northern slope at roughly 1546 m, in the Făgăraș – Transfăgărășan area. It is the traditional base for climbing Negoiu Peak, Romania's second-highest summit, and a beloved launch point toward the Făgăraș ridge.

With a long touring history, the chalet shelters hikers climbing to the peaks or walking the ridge routes. Its position at the upper edge of the forest offers a good balance between comfort and proximity to the alpine zone.

Getting there

• From Cârțișoara station / Porumbacu de Sus, on a forest road and then a marked woodland path (blue stripe / red triangle marking), a climb of about 3–4 hours.
• Access variants from the villages at the northern foot of the Făgăraș.

What to do from here

• Tackle Negoiu Peak (2535 m), including via the technical Strunga Dracului passage.
• Connect to the Făgăraș ridge and continue toward Bâlea or Moldoveanu.
• Link up with the Bâlea – Negoiu via Strunga Dracului trail.

Tips

• The recommended season is June–September; the technical sections toward Negoiu require care and experience.
• Sleeping capacity is limited — check availability in advance, especially on weekends.
• Strunga Dracului becomes dangerous in bad weather; check the weather and note the Mountain Rescue number.
